LD-6: It’s Payday for Chris Marr

Politics

Republican State Senate candidate Michael Baumgartner doesn’t pull any punches in a new radio ad his campaign is running against incumbent Chris Marr.

The ad specifically narrows in on Marr’s haul of campaign cash from lobbyists:

He’s having a big ticket fundraiser for lobbyists in Seattle. For the past four years, Senator Chris Marr has been collecting checks from special interest groups. He’s a multi-millionaire and he gives the lobbyists what they want. Tax breaks for Fat Cats. Favors for Big Oil. Special Laws for Trial Lawyers.

Republican Michael Baumgartner is challenging incumbent Democratic state senator Chris Marr in the suburbs of Spokane.

Here is Baumgartner’s first TV ad:

Marr is a top target of the Senate Republican Campaign Committee this cycle. But the Sixth District Senate race is also regarded by many insiders as something of a bellwether for the GOP’s chances to regain influence in Olympia.

First Rossi Ad Highlights Self-Made Bio, Spending

It’s titled, “Wisely.”

Contrast this positive ad with Patty Murray’s attack ad on Rossi right out of the gate. Clearly, the Murray campaign strategy is to drive up Rossi’s negatives with a few bogeymen. Rossi’s narrative is more subtle, as Carl Cameron points out.

Most national coverage of the Senate matchup seems to be picking up on the gafftastic quality of Murray’s ad: she’s no stranger to corporate or Wall Street money. The ad wars will only ratchet up more now that the Top Two Primary is in sight, but in this first round, Rossi comes off smelling like roses while Murray appears to step in it.

It remains to be seen whether the other two GOPers running (yeah, remember them?!) will make sizable TV buys of their own.
