Liberal Startup PubliCola Gets Two New Investors
By NW Digest Team at June 18th, 2009.PubliCola.net is a recent news site startup run by Josh Feit and Sandeep Kaushik, both formerly of The Stranger. PubliCola was first launched under the banner of David Goldstein’s “JOA News Co-Op.”
Goldstein is a well-known liberal Seattle blogger, who formerly hosted his own talk radio show on 710 KIRO, before it was cancelled when the station changed hands.
TechFlash.com is reporting that the left-leaning PubliCola site has two new investors: Rajeev Singh of Concur, and a Seattle developer, Greg Smith.
More background from the article:
Launched in January, PubliCola is led by Feit who previously served as the news editor of the alternative weekly, The Stranger. The site has a political bent, but also covers music, film and sports.
Kaushik said they aren’t releasing the amount of funding to date, but he noted that it is “significant” and will help assure that “PubliCola is going to be around for some time to come.”
Late last month, Feit began contributing to the SeattlePostGlobe.org (a site that rose from the ashes of the Seattle PI when it shuttered this spring).
Kaushik’s resume states that he worked for King County Executive Ron Sims (press release from the hiring announcement here), and has a background in serving as a spokesman for Democratic politicians in Washington State.
