Inslee Rips Into Skeptic at Climategate Hearing

By Andrew at May 16th, 2010.

Congressman Jay Inslee (D-Bainbridge Island) is a well-known champion of green causes in Congress. Inslee has expressed interest in running for Governor in 2012 (or before), and is seen by many on the enviro-left as a cool operator.

However, at a recent hearing to investigate the foundations of climate science, a Republican challenging Inslee for his Congressional seat says the green hero was less than courteous to an invited expert (and global warming skeptic), Lord Christopher Monckton.

To this observer, Inslee’s tone was not only condescending, but borderline angry.

Cut to the video:

You can read a transcript and watch the full hearing at c-spanvideo.org.

Is this Inslee’s “Invincible Hulk” or Howard Dean-esque moment?

So far, Seattle media doesn’t seem to have caught the exchange. Check back later this week as we seek comment from Rep. Inslee, and his two Republican challengers.

UPDATE: Welcome OrbusMax.com and FreeRepublic.com readers!

UPDATE II: Here is comment from Republican Matthew Burke, a financial planner running against Inslee:

“Incumbent Jay Inslee’s arrogant, mean-spirited, closed-minded, childish, and politicized treatment of Lord Monckton is completely consistent with his treatment of anyone who holds an opposing view.  Rather than honestly and openly debating an issue as important as the environment, he deceptively attempts to deflect attention away from his so-called “consensus science”, which has shown to hinge more on a radical, far-left, faith-based political movement than on serious scientific studies. Instead of being forthright, accountable and responsible, Inslee conveniently hides from the “Climategate” scandal, in which emails from the two top pro-global warming scientists, Phil Jones and Michael Mann, revealed manipulating the data to “hide the decline” in temperatures in order to further promote the biased and financially motivated, pro-global warming movement Inslee has so fervently supported during his long incumbency, fueled by his insatiable desire to ram through the air-taxing, economy-destroying, Cap-and-Trade scheme.”

  1. It’s the democrats that complain that other countries don’t take us seriously, while it’s representatives like Inslee that convince England that they are better off without us.

  2. Ralph - Seattle says:

Jay Inslee is an arrogant, ill-informed, elitist ideologue. He has nothing but contempt for the majority of his constituents.

I cannot wait for the opportunity to help vote this loud mouth out of office. God help us all if this guy becomes governor.

  3. Chris Philips says:

Did our esteemed congressional Representative Inslee really just say, “We’re a Democracy- We’ll ask the questions and you’ll answer them!”
Wow- the Democrat version of Democracy- no wonder the country’s so screwed up! Thank God I live in Inslee’s District and will be able to fight for his defeat this November- He shouldn’t be allowed to speak in front of a microphone!

  4. john Schuh says:

Mr. Insleeeee wastes his time hurling –as LordMonckton says–childish insults.

  5. Stanley Smith says:

Jay Inslee: dear god, what an idiot.

  6. Robbins Mitchell says:

God,what an asshole…was Inslee born stupid or does he take lessons?

Inslee is truly an idiot – a rude idiot.

  9. Jack says:

thank you, Lord Monckton. thank you.

    Inslee is an absolute idiot.

  10. Hi Andrew, and thanks for following the race. This kind of behavior is pretty typical for Inslee, and we shouldn’t be very surprised. Remember, this is the same guy that called folks opposed to his and Obama’s legislative agenda ‘The Forces of Darkness’ at a fundraiser for Patty Murray, acted as Pelosi’s bouncer on the House floor for the vote on Cap and Trade, and told Dave Reichert “We want to beat your ass…”

Voters in the 1st District deserve better representation – and we’ll get it in November. We just can’t afford another term of Mr. Inslee.

BTW, thanks for the link to FactCheckJayInslee.com. Look for some new Jay Inslee video’s from his recent town halls there next week, following his final town hall this Saturday. I’d encourage folks to join me Saturday at Mr. Inslee’s town hall meeting, at Jackson High School in Mill Creek at 4:00. It’s a great opportunity to ask him some questions we all want answers to!

What a stark comparison, Inslee with all his spite in full view and Lord Monckton replying with civility, but still clearly expressing his disapproval. Inslee can’t produce cogent arguments for his positions so he becomes demeaning, rude and crass. He controls the microphone and won’t allow any disagreement. I don’t know why someone who is so lacking in civility and so full of rancor and disdain thinks he will succeed in politics. I’d like to see him start up a small green product business. I wonder how disdainful he’d be of people who have to make payroll and who have to pay for transporting products to customers after gas prices necessarily sky-rocket due to his ill-conceived “green energy” legislation. I’m looking forward to electing James Watkins to replace him and begin working with others on the long process of restoring civility and principled leadership to our government.

  12. Jeanie D says:

Inslee is not qualified by education, temperament, ideology or experience to represent me. He needs to work in the private sector, learn to control his temper and, well, just learn…what an embarrassment. If he weren’t so typical of the loony Washington left, this outburst would be shocking
