Big Crowd But No “Lynch Mob” at Larsen’s Town Hall
By Evan at August 9th, 2009.Read local blogger Pudge’s write up at SoundPolitics.com, who was on scene today and filmed this video:
Demonstrators showed up, both for and against health care reform proposals being circulated in Congress. Rep. Rick Larsen (D-WA) was able to have a civil discussion with those in attendance, though many clearly disagreed with him (from both left and right).
KING 5 and KOMO 4 were also there, and captured the sentiment of several attendees. The stations characterized the forum as “heated” and “passionate,” but nothing was in evidence to support the claims of Democrat Brian Baird who said earlier in the week he feared a lynch mob (and other assorted bogeymen) would ambush him if held town halls.
Larsen, of course, has been much less vocal in his support of a public plan–which many believe would lead to socialized medicine. Baird, in contrast, says he supports it. Perhaps that explains the difference in their town hall strategies.
