Breaking: Palin to Tame “Papa Grizzly” Didier?
By Tom Forbes at August 23rd, 2010.![]()
Highly placed sources have informed me that efforts are underway to have Sarah Palin intervene in the current squabble between former Washington U.S. Senate candidate Clint Didier and Republican Senate nominee Dino Rossi.
Palin, if you recall, endorsed Didier just prior to Rossi’s entry into the race in May. SarahPAC gave Didier $5000 and Palin recorded a robo-call for Didier, but she did not campaign in the state for him.
Didier has declined to endorse Rossi in the Senate race until Rossi agrees to meet three specific demands. Rossi has refused.
Republican state party officials and electeds are busy behind the scenes trying to repair the rift. A close election between Rossi and Democratic incumbent Patty Murray is expected, and Didier’s 12 percent primary vote might be crucial.
More details as they become available.

It’s too bad that Palin didn’t endorse the right candidate to begin with. How many R $$ were spent that now have resulted in bad feelings?
I will never understand. Some people will take their ball and go home rather than at least get something by playing. If the Didier faithful choose not to support Rossi then they guarantee another 6 years of Pathetic Patty. They will also kill any chance of defeating Maria in the future.
Clint has really painted himself into a corner. He has had terrible handling from the foul mouthed to the incompetent. His chances of being Maria’s challenger are fading fast as well. And Akers looks like a fool now for siding with him.
Republicans always turn eating their young into some sort of smorgasbord. Democrats seem to be much more disciplined. They see the big picture. I guess that’s what happens when you are in 2nd place so often; you don’t know how to win.
Rossi is a neocon phony. He won’t win even with Didiers endorsement so why should he endorse him?
I thought the Didier voters were unimportant to Rossi. “He really doesnt need them” has been the mime. Why go to all the effort to enlist Palin?
Big picture is a great way to describe what is lacking from the Didier campaign. We have never been so close to defeating Murray, only to have a so called ally standing in the way. Was Didier dillusional to think he would actually win the primary against Rossi? Rather than capitilize on what I think was a pretty impressive showing by Didier, he is simply going to alienate what could be huge support in the future against Cantwell.
Wow, anyone who disagrees with Didier does not have an understanding of principals. Those who support Didier understand this, and if Rossi doesnt respect and enlist into those principals, and hides from them, then it is easier to vote for someone like murray when you know what you get upfront!
Come on people, Thomas Paine is rolling in his grave for you that don’t have any of what he has prescribed!
Rossi caves too easily. I’ll not support him again.
Voted for Didier in the primary because I liked his stance and saw Rossi as luke warm. However, Rossi won. He can beat Murray. I am now done with Clint Didier and won’t support any of his future efforts. Next time, read what Reagan wrote and take it to heart, Clint.
Rossi won and Didier needs to stop whining and being a sore loser. Now is not the time for demands to be met or to squabble. Didier, a former NFL player should know how to gracefully lose and be a team player. There is no reason to sulk. It is time to unite and defeat Patty Murray.
Yawn, who cares if Didier endorses or not. Rossi is conservative enough for 95% of Didier voters when compared to Murray and that last 5% (of 12% or less than 1% of the total vote in the primary) hate Dino too much to vote for him anyway- just like the peaceniks who hate Murray for voting for war funding even though she was against going into Iraq.
Rossi is conservative enough?
Rossi facts:
6 years on the board of Natures Conservative (a UN Agenda 21 organization); bye bye to property rights
Pro Cap and Trade
Pro Choice
Pro UN; heard it from his lips at the Republican State Convention
2nd amendment stance? (never heard his view)
Refuses to commit to not raising taxes
Refuses to commit to not raising the federal deficit
That’s conservative?
Wow, does Clint believe he has political power to wield? Does he own the votes he received? Seeing this side of him, it’s a relief that he won’t be the Republican candidate.
If Didier is not so important who cares. Rossi should give in to some of Didiers demands if he wants his support, otherwise move on, and forget Didier. Didier won so his supporters can have him win. Would Rossi support Didier if it was the other way around? Didier has principles, Rossi just goes with the wind.

Had Didier not *demanded*, in typical football macho style, but *asked* for a quite, private meeting to discuss working together . . . Maybe?
All Rossi did was reject a *demand*!
I live in the middle of Didier country and know a LOT of folks who voted for him.
Far too many of then are bitter and are directing it toward Rossi when it was Didier, and his fans, who lost the campaign. Rossi didn’t beat Didier. Didier lost to Rossi and need to get over it. It’s not the fault of Rossi, or the fault of other conservatives in this State who would like to see Murray retired that Didier lost.
Fascinating.
The only question is this: does Rossi need Didier or does Didier need Rossi?
If, has been alleged, Rossi doesn’t need Didier, then, well, move along… there’s nothing to see here.
OTOH, Rossi needs Didier. Has to have him or he will lose (a likely outcome anyway). The R’s all say that Didier should take one for the team.
Well, why should he? What does he have to gain by that? The same people backing Rossi will trash Didier the next time he runs for anything, so what’s in it for him?
Situational ethics seems to be the hallmark of the GOP in this state.
If I’m Didier and Rossi wants my support, he’s going to have to pay for it.
Otherwise… Rossi becomes a political footnote.
As for how Didier sent the message, nothing could be more irrelevant. That Rossi rejected the message is what matters. And no one (including Palin) at this point has a thing to bargain with, since most seeking Didier’s support were trashing him just a few short days ago.
I’m sitting this one out. But then, while I never really thought Goodspaceguy had much of a chance, but I voted for him anyway.
Trying to understand here – So the rah, rah, America-first-politics-second candidate is really all about politics in the end. Maybe we should leave the Dems in office. Better the devil we know!
Rino Rossi dosen’t need Didier. Rossi will win with the fiscal conservative Democrat vote. He does not care about Constitutional conservatives or cater to their concerns.
He is the Great Washington Rino.
This guy says it like it is:
Jay Devereaux:
Go ahead. Vote for Dino. And you will lose anyway. Or… You could send the power structure here in WA a message that you will not vote for any dung heap they throw up on your porch. I can hear you all now, no way you waste your vote or not vote at all. I did not suggest either one. I am suggesting you write in someone. Your vote is not wasted, and I will tell you why.
Dino will lose to Murray no matter what because, well, he is a progressive of the LITE variety. Don’t bother with your slings and arrows about how he is a conservative. HOGWASH! Conservatives do not think abortion is OK. Conservatives don’t think it’s OK to vote for unconstitutional legislation. They don’t rob Peter to pay Pauline and they do not say things like, ” I balanced the budget and helped the disadvantaged.” Excuse me Mr. Rossi, but the government has no place, no authority and certainly no business being in the business of charity to ANYONE especially when they take the money from the citizens by force! Besides, you didn’t balance anything, you took money from the right pocket and put it in the left pocket then skimmed some more off the top and left an IOU in the till. That’s the kind of accounting that has left Social Security (ponsi scheme similar to the one that send a fellow named Bernie to prison) and Medicare (the real reason healthcare/insurance costs skyrocket) bankrupt!
So Dino will lose and we will still have Patty Murray. But, here comes 2012. Cantdowell’s seat is up for grabs. You went along with the party BS that (R) has to beat (D) no matter what. Your still buying into that crap? Really? Don’t you yet understand that D & R don’t matter if the same puppet master is pulling the strings? How’s your head down there? Is it nice and cool in that sand?
So.. Cantdowells seat is up, and once again the party sends up another “lesser of 2 evils” candidate for you that will once again not energize the base and guess what, you lose AGAIN to another socialist and your stuck until 2016. How’s that working for you fools that still think this is a damn game your “TEAM” has to win?
Hey non-thinking voter, turn out is the reason you have what you have. 35.11% statewide. In this political environment? Seriously? You know why? Because you have let the parties pull this same game on you your entire lives. Do you like working until AUGUST to pay the taxes for things you said NO to? Are you stupid? What will it take for you to open your eyes? Chains and shackles around your neck and ankles? I know 5 year olds with more common sense.
Look behind you dummy. That’s the Grand Canyon on the other side of 2012. How much further will you retreat before you stop giving ground. Get a spine and stand up for your principles or sit down and shut your mouth because I do not want to hear ANY of you complain any more about the government you have because you deserve every single bit of this BS you get for being such damn fools! And that goes for you 4 numb skulls on the local radio too.
That’s right I said it and I mean it. Oh you talk all about being conservatives, and then you jerks cave in and go with Essers clown show. Boze, don’t even try that line I heard you say today, that you only wish you had that much influence. You know as well as I do that many people depend on what you talk show hosts tell them. Brian, I admire your service but lately you may as well be on Luke’s payroll.
So you all go vote for Dino like good little rats in a maze. Then go cry in your beer about how blue WA is and how you have to get a moderate in because of King county. That’s what they want you to believe ya dope!

Did Jay Devereaux really write that? He’s a moron.
Okay, this is old news. Let’s change the subject. I was excited about Didier and enthusiastically supported him. After the Paul Akers joint announcement I knew with certainty neither could win. (I never really thought Didier could win, but I hoped). After that moment, Didier seemed to implode–Conservatives don’t go on the attack the way Didier did. But, it’s all history. The vast, vast majority of Didier voters will vote for Rossi. Akers and Rossi voters will vote for Rossi. There are probably enough independents who will vote for Rossi who wouldn’t have voted for him if he signed on as Didier’s lap dog (yes, that’s how Murray will frame it). This whole topic is tired and a waste of time and energy. Tom, post something telling us why Rossi is best for the job. Post reports on Murray’s lie about 3,000 teaching jobs. Stir people up over Murray’s promise to bring home the pork for the veterans.
Eyes on the prize– Rossi vs Murray. I want Rossi to win. Let’s go. Game on.
