Threatening Calls Follow Baird Cancellation
By Nansen at September 1st, 2009.In case you missed it, The Columbian, picked up on Baird’s cancelling the town hall he agreed to have in my living room.
My phone started ringing off the hook early this morning. At some point, I have to get work done, so I’m letting calls go to voicemail. Suspiciously, the calls have all followed the same talking points: “We will destroy you!” and “This is War!”
Here’s an example of one of the threats (left on my voicemail), from Cliff Hazen of Vancouver, WA. Nothing like a threat to destroy one’s livelihood to get the morning going, heh?
More as I get time to upload them. Some of us have to work for a living…

Typical of these people. What a sad mental state they are in.
I don’t know who “these people” are you’re referring to. Perhaps I’m one of “these people”. I’m a Democrat and also a friend of Nansen’s. Everyone has a right to free speech (and I believe a right to affordable health care). That right does not give anyone license to threaten anyone’s life or to be inarticulately insulting! Intelligent, respectful discussion is part of our democracy.
Susie, threatening people is not part of our democracy and the bottom line is that liberals are generally the threatening type. Maybe not all, but just look at the protest records and the amount of violence that the liberals use. You do not see that at conservative protests, with minor exceptions.
This is the same tactic our government is currently using, threaten and harass to get your way.
Oh that sounds ‘professional’. Nice when folks can take time to leave ‘feedback’! LOL
Is the man an idiot? Did he think voice mail was some kind of ephemeral medium and he’d never have to face any consequences of his threats? You go, girl!
Looks like this guy, if he’s giving his correct name, is a HAM operator with a license:
73 Cliff N7HIY Cliff Hazen N7HIY (probably old email)
Vancouver, Wa.
His current email is more likely to be: cliffhazen@comcast.net
All of this is easily found using a Google search. “Lock and load” it is.
This Cliff Hazen seems to clearly be a coward and a childish one at that.
[...] Nansen has th audio of the threat left on her voice mail up at her blog on NW Digest. [...]
As A ham operattor let me suggest you drop a loi\line to the email address Laura.Smith@fcc.gov, cced to FCCinfo@fccgov which will respond with a file number, that is the addy for the FCC enforcement specail conseul. mention that you are cpmaplaining about the charater of a Ham operator.
she will take no offical action (she my drop a line telling him to cool it) but it is starrts a file, but if a pattern of behavoir developes it might result in action
Mark Morgan owner of Kb9rqz another am a someone following you on twitter
At least he left his cell phone number for the cops can trace his location with. Apparently this isn’t his first call, he said “again”. Funny how some people resort to seven-year-old mentality when challenged. No. Actually, it’s quite sad.
Niiiiiiice. What an idiot. Guess he ain’t never heard nuttin’ ’bout technology or those other new-fangled things.
OH? was that a PHONE number in his message?
and its on the internet, how. about. that.
He’s a HAM radio guy.
How perfect.
Maybe that clown will telegraph in the next pathetic threat.
I got this message from Cliff last night, I guess this is in response to my first post. Not threatening just weird.
“fyi jr,
the rest of the story that Ms. Malin conveniently left out
I called this morning to ask about the cancelled meeting with Baird. I explained to Nan that my background is a Vietnam veteran with specific interests in quality health care access for war veterans often unserved by the present for profit only system. I made Nan aware that I had voted for both Democrats and Republicans
Pacific County Republican Party Leadership
Nansen Malin, Chairman
I inquired about the format of the proposed meeting and questions she would have asked of the Rep. concerning health care for all Americas.
She became arrogantly hostile and vocally loud, much like we have seen by those opposed in the town hall meetings across America concerning health care. I tried to explain to her my interests in the subject were from the standpoint of war veterans left out in the cold by the American health care system. Those mentally wounded by war, those crippled and damaged physically by war, those poorly served by the VA and private medical insurance system in America. Certainly not a Christian act to have no mercy or caring about the medical well being for those that have really served America.
Ms. Malin had no time to listen to my opinions, I was only to listen to hers. She hung up on me.
So, to paraphrase a great American and winner of wars, “This Day Will Live in Infamy”.
Oh, and don’t bother coming to my house and trying to scare my family like your Brown Shirt rabble has done to so many others, I was trained and paid to hunt humans in the dark.
Ditdu mai the Republican health care plan of we’ll profit off your pain and misery. If this is the Conservative Christian version of their god’s word on compassion and caring about one’s fellow person, I want no part of their mortal sin against the Word of God.
Cliff”
