Financial Trouble for Seattle Port Candidate Holland
By Evan at October 7th, 2009.Seattle Port Commissioner Candidate Rob Holland was embarrassed last week when video of him trumpeting his share-the-wealth philosophy at an ACORN rally turned up on — and then was abruptly removed from — YouTube.
Now, something else from Holland’s background has emerged, first reported on Sound Politics. In addition to being a fuel salesman, it appears Holland also spent some time collecting unemployment insurance benefits that were not owed to him. According to a tax warrant issued less than a year ago, Holland pocketed an overpayment of benefits and did not pay them back until a warrant was issued to force collection.
The Sound Politics post raises the question about whether the Port, with a $500 million budget and its own problems with overpayments, needs better oversight than they’re likely to receive from Holland.
