Baird’s Apology Rings Hollow, True Colors Revealed

Brian Baird issued a half-hearted apology today for his bizarre and reprehensible slurs directed at opponents of ObamaCare.  As someone who has worked with local Democrats in the past, including the Congressman, I was the first to demand an immediate apology days ago.  It finally came today, albeit several days late, and many words short of being sincere. (You can read the rambling letter online here.)

Let’s recap: if you are like me, you were probably absolutely shocked by Baird’s outlandish “Brown Shirts,” “lynch mobs,” and “Timothy McVeigh” comments last week.  But as recently as yesterday, he was still driving down that path hard: labeling opponents of ObamaCare “un-American.”  The former college professor should know better.

Going Stealth in Longview: Real Astro-Turf Revealed

Something big is happening in the 3rd C.D.  That was my gut feeling after I began hearing about a “stealth town hall event” in the works supposedly featuring our state’s two U.S. Senators Murray and Cantwell along with Congressman Brian Baird, to be hosted somewhere in the 3rd Congressional District.

Probably just embellishment, I thought.  If both Senators were coming to Southwest Washington, it would obviously be all over the news for several days leading up to such an event…or not.

As has been happening in many places across the country, the event drew an overflow crowd of attendees. But an important point was made in the news segment, that shouldn’t be lost on us.  ”It’s important to have these town halls,” said one attendee, even if no minds are changed.

Why?  It’s democracy, stupid.
